Question: What’s the process of getting waxed?
Answer: Depending on the service, you'll either remove your clothes or lay on the table clothed once you've entered the salon. Our esthetician will then cleanse the area she'll be waxing, apply a small amount of baby powder, and lay strips quickly over the hair. Immediately after removing the wax, she'll apply pressure to the area to ensure the client is comfortable and repeat the process until the hair is gone. Question: What is getting waxed?
Answer: Wax adheres to your hair (or skin, depending on the type of wax), and then the hair is removed once the wax is ripped off.
Question: What is wax?

Question: What different kinds of wax are there?
Answer: Hard wax (the wax we use at Amethyst Aesthetics) hardens on your skin but doesn’t adhere to it, so when it dries and is removed, it only removes the hair. Soft Wax is applied to the skin very thinly, and then a thin muslin strip is applied on top of the wax to remove the hair, but unlike hard wax, soft wax does adhere to the skin. Sugar Wax is an all-natural wax made from sugar, water, and lemon juice heated to high temperatures. Once cooled to room temperature, it creates a sticky, sugary paste that works well, adhering to skin and hair. This method has existed for thousands of years and is excellent for clients with super-sensitive skin!
Question: Does getting wax hurt?
Answer: Overall, yes, you’re ripping lots of little hairs out from the root, but we use hard wax here, which eliminates the pain from the wax adhering to your skin, unlike soft wax, making the experience much more tolerable. And remember that everybody’s pain tolerance is different; we strive to make your experience quick and painless! If you’re still worried about it, you can take a couple of Advil an hour before your appointment. We provide cold drinks, stress balls, and a fan to comfort our clients.
Question: Do I need to have hair, and how long should my hair be when I get waxed?
Answer: Yes, you need hair to be waxed; minimum, it should be about the length of a grain of rice or eyelash length, so about eyebrow/eyelash length. If your hair is longer than that, that’s fine, and if it’s too long, we can trim it!
Question: How often should I get waxed?
Answer: Everyone is different; if your hair grows at an average rate, then I’d say every 4-6 weeks; if it grows fast, then I’d say every four weeks; and if it grows slow, then it’s really up to your preference on when you feel like you need a clean up!

Question: Can I bring someone?
Answer: Yes, you may bring one person to your appointment, children are fine as long as they can sit and not disrupt the service.
Question: As a woman can I keep my underwear on?
Answer: Few services require underwear to be entirely off; they are the Bikini Full, Brazilian, Butt Strip, and Butt Full waxes; for a Bikini Line wax, it's completely optional.
Question: Do you offer intimate waxing to men?
Answer: The most intimate service we offer to our male clientele is the bikini line and butt cheeks, but briefs must be kept on during bikini line service. Intimate waxing is for our clients who anatomically have a vagina but we would gladly get you in touch with another Esthetician that does offer those services!
